Exhibition of Art Work

This postcard is designed to commemorate an exhibition of art and craft work from Knockaloe. 'Ausstellung von Kunstarbeiten' translates as 'Exhibition of Art Work'. The central figure can be seen working on a carved wooden picture frame while a model ship is placed next to him. Both items were commonly produced in the camp along with numerous other items including carved bone work, woodwork and more unique pieces such as jewelry and musical instruments to find out more take a look at some of the other collections or search the archive.
The woman standing behind the internee may be a representation of the German goddess Ostara who is often associated with Easter or she may represent a valkyrie.
Manx icons are represented with the addition of a Manx cat and the view out of the hut onto Peel Hill with Corrin's Folly at the top.
